AFB is seeking an investment of $5 million to scale operations and seize a leadership position in the energy storage market. This capital will be utilised to enhance our manufacturing capabilities and expand our market reach, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of energy storage technology.
Vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs) have gained attention globally for their effectiveness in energy storage applications, virtual power plants (for energy retailers) and diesel replacement programs for remote commercial operations and communities. The many countries with VRFB large deployments include China, Japan, South Korea, Russia, India, Philippines, Australia, USA, Canada, Brazil, Chile, Germany, UK, Spain, Italy, Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya and South Africa. The global market for VRFBs is expanding rapidly, with projections indicating annual deployments could reach approximately 32.8 GWh by 2031.
As of early 2024, approximately 3.7 million Australian households (31.46%) have rooftop solar panels, positioning Australia as a global leader in residential solar adoption. However, less than 5% of these solar-equipped homes use battery storage, indicating significant growth potential in the residential energy storage market.
Approximately 30% of Australia's conventional power generation relies on diesel, much of which is located in remote regions. This dependency highlights the importance of diesel generators in areas without access to the national electricity grid. The Australian government is actively supporting initiatives to replace diesel systems with renewable energy solutions. Programs such as the Northern Territory Remote Power System Strategy aim to achieve 70% renewable electricity generation in remote communities.
